“The Lou Arno Story“ – by Mrs. Ida Hudkins”

Pioneers and Progress, Alix Clive Historical Club, 1974

Mr. and Mrs. Lou Arno and children Cleo, Gerald, Gertrude and husband Bert Chapell came to live in Clive in the fall of 1918.  They bought the dray business but didn’t take it over until the spring.

Mr. Arno worked in the woods at Rocky Mountain House during the winter.  Mrs. Arno nursed a lot of flu cases during that winter and Gertrude worked in a store in Clive.

The Arnos and Chapells moved to Joffre for one year then to Potlatch, Idaho.  Mr. Arno passed away in in December 1946, Gertrude in 1956 and Bert in 1968.

Gerald was in World War II and served in North Africa and France.  He brought an English bride home, and they had two daughters and three sons.
