John Bruce was born on January 1st, 1924 (his Dad called him his 1924 model) in the big house that still stands on the farm.  Bruce took all his schooling at Westling and Clive Schools.  He started farming with his Father in the summer of 1941.  In October of 1951 he married the former Betty Hughes of Edmonton and they have one daughter Linda.

The log house which was here when Mr. and Mrs. Somerville came in 1915 is still here [1974] and is being used on the farm.  The big white house was originally the first hotel in Clive, then Valley City.  It must have been quite a sight to see it being moved by a steamer owned by Mr. Oscar Westling.  When they just about got to the creek, Mr. Westling thought one steamer was not enough so they asked Mr. Axel Westling if he would come with his, so then the two of them pulled it to the farm site.  Out of the hotel, they made the house, a barn which got struck by lightning in 1951 and a two car garage.  The new house was built in 1965.
